Newton School first graders in Mrs. Terri Frank's class are learning about the properties of air through the AMSTI Air and Weather investigations. They are investigating the effect of moving air using straws on feathers, Styrofoam, balloons, and other lightweight objects. Students are using water, vials, and Styrofoam balls to better understand the concept that air takes up space. They are learning about air resistance by making their own parachutes. These excited first graders are also leaning about compressed air by building balloon rockets.
