Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the 2012-13 school year at J.L. Newton Elementary School where our primary focus is the children! We are looking forward to an exciting and successful school year.
Newton has a proud tradition of academic excellence. Our students once again achieved AYP (adequate yearly progress) on the state mandated ARMT test. As the proficiency goals rise for this school year, we will continue focus on improvement of math and reading scores. Emphasis will be placed on Math, Science and Technology through the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) as we teach our children to think mathematically and become better problem solvers. Good study habits, classroom preparedness, skills mastery, promptness, and respect are all integral parts of our educational program. We expect students to earn their grades, and we will work tirelessly to provide every opportunity for students to achieve these expectations.
We strive to reinforce values of respectful and responsible human beings who are confident both academically and socially. Newton faculty teaches students to treat others as they want to be treated, clean up behind themselves, and take pride in their school campus. Our students are a direct reflection of a wonderful community of which we are proud. Please join our outstanding PTO and select for one of the many volunteer opportunities available throughout the year. Make it a point to volunteer in your child's classroom when possible, attend conferences and meetings, and communicate regularly with your child's teachers.
Working together with parents and the community, we can ensure success for all our Newton Students. Please let us know if we can ever be of assistance. We look forward to an exciting and rewarding school year!
